Client Story: Orbotech
“We just have finished our first innovation program cycle with Spyre’s guidance. I was amazed by how our technical people, some with Ph.D.’s in physics and mathematics, and who are very technology and operations-oriented, caught up with the spirit of entrepreneurship. How quickly they could learn to turn ideas from being fundamental of technical essence to having a potential impact on the business we run. This transformed the ideas into well-defined projects that management could connect to and back some of them enthusiastically. The work we are doing with Duco is always oriented towards learning with purposeful outcomes of management support and practical next steps. Duco’s methodology was a key factor in our ability to make progress with several potential strategic projects.”
About the customer:
Orbotech Ltd, a KLA company, is both a global and public Israeli technology company with a historical tradition of innovation. Its main business is the development, production, and marketing of equipment for manufacturing processes in the global electronics industry and related industries. Orbotech employs approximately 2,400 people worldwide (as of 2019), most of whom are engineers, scientists, and technical professionals from diverse fields of research.
About the project and the challenges:
Orbotech wanted to take its innovation activity to the next level. To do this, we first performed an innovation check-up which included an in-depth assessment of the current improvement processes. We identified the main players, analyzed the organizational ecosystem, and developed recommendations. Our recommendations paired with the acquired support of the management team enabled Orbotech to perform a single Organic Innovation Cycle in Israel as a pilot for future global activity.
The results of the process:
The project’s success was based on pre-approved measures – finding at least three high-potential initiatives. Initiatives were presented to relevant managers in order to get a green light for further development and implementation in the business units. Although originally, only three ventures were planned, Orbotech management chose four ventures due to the high level of value attributed to them. Furthermore, management decided that they will carry out another cycle in 2021.
